Le Temps de Vivre (The Time To Live)

Moustaki composed this song in 1968 for a movie of the same name. In it, a laborer works overtime to give his wife and daughter a comfortable life but fails to address their other frustrations. Missed opportunity. She falls in love with a teacher who opens a world she hardly knew. Meanwhile, the parallel world of French student revolts in May 1968 reverberates, while shaking reality and promising new options. The song envisions the dawn of a new life with time, freedom from projects and old routines, and fulfillment, as expressed by Vera Komnig's adjacent painting.
We will take the time to live To be free, my love Without projects, without routines We can make our dreams come true Come, here I am, I wait only for you All is possible, everything permitted Come, hear these words that resonate On the walls of the month of May They speak to us of certainty That all can change one day Come, here I am, I wait only for you All is possible, everything permitted We will take the time to live To be free, my love No projects and no routines We can make our dreams come true |
