Garou is the felicitous stage name adopted by Canadian singer Pierre Garand (b. 1972). His music activity began at an early age and conventionally, playing piano and guitar while singing in bars.

​In 1997, producer Luc Plamondon and Richard Cocciante conscripted him to play Quasimodo in the musical play “Notre Dame de Paris.” He did this for 3 years in Paris, singing the record-breaking song “Belle” alongside Patrick Fiori and Daniel Lavoie (lyrics by Plamondon and music by Cocciante). His solo career began in 2001 with the appropriately-named album “Seul” (“Alone”).

​His distinctive raspy voice has led him over the years to showcase it through collaboration with other artists like Céline Dion and Charlotte Cardin. For much of his career and in his 12 albums, he interpreted songs written and composed by others. During the same time, he received many awards including 11 “Félix” (ADISQ-Quebec) and 3 “Victoires de la Musique” (French Grammies). In 2025 he joined the ranks of ACI artists (auteur, composeur, interprète) with the release of his album, “Ce meilleur lendemain.”
